John Wesley Michael Schmitz

1950 - 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John on Saturday February 7th, 2026 at the age of 75.

John was born and lived in Cambridge, moved to Owen Sound, then back to Cambridge. He was employed and retired at Butler Metals. He enjoyed building old cars and going to car shows. He was a kind and funny Gentle Ben to all.

Beloved husband and best friend of Gloria “Becky”  Peori -Schmitz.

Loving father of Jeffery Schmitz (Theresa), John “Beaver”  Schmitz ( Kim) and step-father of Shawn Peeler.  Cherished grandfather of Bailey, Zoe and Blake. 

Proud great grandfather of Addie, McKenna, Holly and Ella.

Dear brother of Janice Rabe (John), Judy Chambers (Paul), Theresa Chambers and David Schmitz (Pam), by brother in-law Jim Bruce.

Predeceased by his parents Michael and Nora (nee Parks), by his first wife Marilyn, by his sister, Pat Bruce and by his brother-in-law, Tom Chambers

He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers and neighbours.

In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no visitation or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada as expressions of sympathy.
