Kenneth George Sellars

1924 – 2025

With full hearts and profound gratitude for an extraordinary life, the family of Kenneth George Sellars announces his peaceful passing on December 8, 2025, at nearly 102 years of age. Ken left this world just as he lived in it—with grace, clarity, humour, a positive attitude and deep appreciation for a life well lived.

Born in 1924 to Walter Stanley Sellars and Beatrice Isabella Sellars (née Hutchins), Ken grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, one of eight siblings. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife and soulmate Margaret (née Dolimount); his sisters Hazel and Florence; and his brothers James, Wilfred, Walter, Frederick, and Norman.

Ken showed courage, ambition and determination from an early age. During the Depression, at just six years old, he sold newspapers to pay his own school bill—a testament to the work ethic, determination and resourcefulness that would define his life. As a young man, he made the bold move from St. John’s to the Kitchener-Waterloo region with his new bride Margaret and their first baby.  There they welcomed another child and built a new life for their family with confidence and optimism.

A man of vision, discipline, and integrity, Ken established and ran a very successful plumbing and heating business. His strong values, wise decision-making, and tireless work ethic also made him a skilled and thoughtful real estate investor.

Ken and Margaret along with nine others were proud to be founding members of St. James–Rosemount United Church, where he remained a dedicated and lifelong supporter. His faith community was a meaningful anchor throughout his life, and he was delighted at 100 years old to speak at the 75th anniversary of the church!

Beyond his accomplishments, Ken was an adventurous spirit. He and Margaret spent nearly 30 years of retirement living and travelling abroad for six months every year, exploring countless countries together. A passionate learner, he absorbed everything around him, immersing himself in new cultures, ideas, and experiences. He embraced technology with enthusiasm—delighting in every new device and happily using his computer and technology tools to the very end.

Those who knew Ken will remember his charm, his keen mind, his quick wit, and his ability to think deeply and clearly to the very end. His integrity was unwavering; his values strong; his humour warm and ever-present.

Ken was deeply loved by his daughter Brenda B. Gear (husband James); his son Kenneth W. Sellars (wife Vivian); his grandson Kristofer Gear; his granddaughter Dr. Katie Finch; and his four great-grandchildren, all of whom feel profoundly blessed to carry cherished memories of their times with him.

After nearly 102 remarkable years, Ken leaves behind a legacy of resilience, curiosity, courage, and love. His family takes great comfort in knowing he is reunited with Margaret and the many loved ones who journeyed before him.

May he rest in peace, remembered forever with affection, admiration, and gratitude.

A private family celebration of Ken’s life will take place at a later date.

For anyone wishing to make a donation in his honour, Ken always believed in the good provided by The Salvation Army.
