Linda Marjorie Bowland
1953 - 2026
Linda died peacefully on Monday, July 20th, 2026 after a 15 month battle with Uterine Cancer at Lissard House in Cambridge.
Linda was born in Goderich, Ontario in 1953, the youngest of four children.
She was a lifelong artist and writer, and also was a regular participant at costume competitions during the 1980’s, 1990’s and early 2000’s at numerous science fiction conventions in Ontario, Michigan and Illinois.
Linda had a sharp intellect, a dry wit, and interests in the sciences, languages (especially Latin!) photography, gardening and many other subjects. She sewed, knitted, embroidered, and did mixed media art.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and mother in law.
She is survived by the love of her life of 45 years, Donald Garvey Jr., her son, Timothy Allen Garvey (Carolynn McCumber), and her three brothers – Bob (Dorothy) Bowland, Mike Bowland (Karole Marois) and Tim Bowland, as well as niece Tara, and nephews Matthew, Ryan, Brad, and Edward, plus numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada and the USA in the Garvey and Bowland families.
She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Bowland, Ruth Bowland, and her sister in laws, Kitty Bowland and Maggie Bowland, and her husband’s family- Donald Garvey Sr., Aileen Garvey, and Mike Garvey.
Per Linda’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Linda will be held at a later date.
Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the London Health Science Centre and at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre in Kitchener for their care for Linda over the past 15 months.
As well, we would like to thank the staff at Lisaard House Hospice for their care of Linda during the last 3 weeks of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to Lisaard House Hospice in Cambridge.
