Martin Micheal Hendel

1937- 2026

Passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener on Sunday January 11th, 2026 at the age of  88 years.

Martin was born in Petersburg and was the youngest of six children.  From the age of 15, he worked as a contractor alongside his father and brothers in the family construction business.  For almost two decades he has been a resident of Sunnyside Home, volunteering to support other residents and playing the chimes with the singing group.  Martin spent many hours enjoying games of cribbage with residents and volunteers.  His completed jigsaw puzzles have adorned the walls of his unit over the years.   Most of all, he loved sharing a joke and making people laugh.  His charm and wit brought a smile to so many over the years.  Martin will be very missed by many people at Sunnyside who cared for him so well for so long.

He will also be very missed by his children, his siblings and members of his church community.

Loving father of Leslie of Waterloo and Christopher (Xanthe) of Kitchener.  Grandfather of Sammy and Charlie.   Dear brother of Marie Wiesel of Cambridge, Rose Fennel, Tillie Nentwig (Gerald) of Kitchener.

He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents George and Rosina Hendel, as well as his brothers Dave and George Hendel.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at the New Apostolic Church, Margaret Avenue at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunnyside Foundation as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences for the family may be left in the comments box below.
