Robert William MacKinnon,

Robert William MacKinnon, 74, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026.

Born on July 18, 1951, Robert lived a full life defined by hard work, music, laughter, and the ability to make people smile even during difficult times. Whether you knew him for five minutes or fifty years, chances are he had already cracked a joke, told a story, or found a way to make you laugh before the conversation ended.

Robert built a respected career as a Technical Engineering Supervisor, where he was known for his intelligence, leadership, and ability to solve problems that left everyone else scratching their heads. Outside of work, he dedicated time volunteering with the Cancer Society, always wanting to help others whenever he could.

Music was one of Robert’s greatest passions. As a professional musician, he brought joy to countless people over the years and never lost his love for performing. He could light up a room with music almost as quickly as he could with one of his one-liners.

Above all else, Robert was a proud father to Cameron MacKenzie MacKinnon and Michael Robert MacKinnon and grandfather to Sophia MacKinnon, Simon MacKinnon and Marshall MacKinnon. His family meant everything to him, and the memories, laughter, and lessons he leaves behind will never be forgotten.

Robert believed life was meant to be lived fully, preferably with good music, good company, and at least one inappropriate joke at exactly the wrong time.

A Celebration of Life will be held around July 18th, what would have been Robert’s 75th birthday. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, laugh loudly, play some music, and honour the remarkable man he was.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages people to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or simply do something Robert appreciated deeply: make someone laugh.

“Don’t be surprised if Heaven suddenly got a little louder.”

Messages and condolences may be left for the family in the comment box below.
