Jean Elizabeth Knetsch

1977-2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean at Hospice of Waterloo Region on Monday May 11, 2026 at the age of 48 years.

Born in Edmonton, Jean spent her formative years on the Caribbean island of Bonaire before attending high school in Stratford Ontario and settling in Waterloo, where she completed two university degrees and had a seventeen-year career as an elementary school French teacher. Aside from her passion for teaching, she enjoyed animals of all shapes and sizes, filling her gardens with native plants, and traveling around the world. She and husband Richard could often be found performing ballroom dance routines or looking for birds in their neighbourhood.

Beloved daughter of Hendrik Knetsch and the late Janice Rowe (née Mclean).

Loving partner and best friend of Richard Bilson, to whom she was married for over 24 years.

Devoted servant to her beloved cats, Hank and the late Tony and Cleo.

Cherished sister of the late Jami Rowe, Alexander (AJ), Meaghan and Brian Knetsch.

She will be sadly missed by many extended family including her beloved nieces and nephews Theo Johannes, Phillip Pitawanakwat, and Grace, Ella and Luke Bilson.

At her request, cremation has taken place. A private gathering will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences for the family may be left in the comments box below.
