Donald Nelson Young

February 27, 1945 – May 2, 2025

“Don, Donny, Donnie”

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of My Dad, Donald Nelson Young on Friday, May 2nd, 2025. Known to many as Don, Donny, or Donnie, he was the finest man I’ve ever known—a man of unwavering kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him.

My Dad was born on February 27, 1945, in Welland, Ontario. He grew up in the heart of the community, attending Ross Elementary and Welland High School, where he proudly wore #5 on the football team. With a warm smile and an outgoing nature, he formed lifelong friendships and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In the late 1970s, he fulfilled a dream by purchasing and operating Indian Lake Campground. The campground became a beloved gathering place, full of unforgettable memories for family and friends—a testament to his love of people, nature, and life's simple joys.

My Dad was also a lifelong classic car enthusiast, known in the community for his passion, mechanical know-how, and willingness to help. Whether it was a spare part, a needed tool, or just advice, he was always happy to lend a hand. In his younger years, he was a proud member of the Road Beavers Car Club, where his love of cars and camaraderie thrived.

He is lovingly remembered by us, his daughters, Shannon and Stacy, who were the center of his world, and by his grandson, who affectionately called him Pa, Tyler Skinner, whom he taught countless life lessons—including how to turn scrap metal into cash and find value in the overlooked. My Dad was predeceased by his parents, William Burton and Marjorie Maude Young, both of Welland. He is survived by his brothers, Bill (Sharon) and Gary, and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, Young and Hlywka alike.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared when available.

Please consider a donation in his name to The Alzheimer's Society of Ontario or Busy Hands Quilters in Cambridge, which makes quilts for people in Palliative Care at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." W.T.P

 Love you Dad.

Shannon
