Donna Jean Steele (nee Prine)
Aug 15, 1947-Oct 4, 2026
Donna passed away peacefully, at the age of 79 with family by her side following a courageous fight on Sunday, October 4th, 2026.
Beloved partner of Murray Reed. Loving and devoted mom to Denise Parkin and Diane Magee. Such a proud grandma of Lauryn, Kaitlyn, David, Sarah and Lachlan. Survived by her loving sisters and brothers n law, Brenda and Dave Maile, Deb and Matt Millard along with many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents David and Alma Prine and her sister Sandra (Rick) Hyde.
Donna spent the majority of her life living in the Preston area which always felt like home. Her love for her work as a crossing guard gave Donna the opportunity to meet so many children and families making their way to and from school. Previously Donna owned and operated a carpet business in Guelph, Ontario.
Over the last decade, Donna and Murray enjoyed many boat and bus trips throughout Ontario, especially during the fall season. Since childhood, one of Donna’s favourite places was along the coast of Lake Huron where she loved to visit many little towns from Southampton down to Grand Bend including her time spent at the trailer.
Donna adored her cat Charlie and he adored her too.
Being known for her gardening skills, Donna also had the impressive ability to remember almost every plants’ name.
Baking was a hobby especially during the holiday seasons. Christmas was her favourite of them all. During the Christmas holidays, you could always count on Donna to have her home fully decorated with lots of baking which she loved sharing with others. Donna also had a very keen interest in current and historic events.
Often quietly, Donna helped others through her generosity be it someone she just met or someone she held dear to her heart. Donna supported many charities including the food bank, Cambridge humane society, homeless shelters, hospitals and Operation Christmas Child.
Our family would like to extend our sincerest heartfelt thanks to Waterloo Region Health Network @Midtown (Grand River Hospital) and Hospice Waterloo Region, the doctors, nurses, PSW’s, support staff and especially the volunteers for showing such humanity during Donna’s final journey. Forever grateful to Dr. Munoz and her office family for providing kindness, dignity, compassion and support for both Donna and her family.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cambridge Food Bank or Cambridge Humane Society.
