Gerald David (Gerry) Steinman

1935-2026

Gerald David (Gerry) Steinman passed away peacefully at Innisfree Hospice, on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at the age of 90 years. He has been reunited with his best friend, his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol (Cressman).

His memory will be cherished by his children, Randy (Sheryl) of Chatham, Lynne (Mark) of Powell River, B.C., Mike (Carolyn) of Cambridge, and Tammy (Chris) of Rice Lake. He will also be remembered with great affection by his nine grandchildren, Melissa, Brian, Brooke, Levi, Gabe, Lucy, Ailish, Brody and Kyler, three great-grandchildren Wyatt, Brynley and Sadie, and his nieces and nephews.

Gerry was predeceased by his parents David and Emma (Lebold), his brother Dale, and his sister and brother-in-law Mary & Calvin Roth. He was also predeceased by Carol’s brother and sister-in-law Ron & Pauline Cressman.

Gerry spent most of his career as a principal in elementary schools in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo. After his retirement he served as vice-chair of the Review Board for the Family and Children’s Services Act for the province of Ontario. Over his career he served on the boards of a number of charities in Waterloo Region. He was most proud of his work with Chesley Lake Camp Association, the Kiwanis Club of Preston-Hespeler, Fairview Seniors Community, and Langs Community Association where he was a founding member. He enjoyed his involvement with Preston Mennonite Church where he was a long-time member and involved in numerous activities.

He enjoyed sports and was involved with hockey, fastball, golf and curling over the years. He especially treasured the friendships he made with the Seniors curling at the Galt Curling Club in his retirement years as well as his involvement with the Probus Club of Cambridge. He made many friends in Cambridge, Chesley Lake Camp and Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he spent as much time as he could.

Visitation will be held at Preston Mennonite Church, 791 Concession Rd. Cambridge, from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026. A memorial service will be held at Preston Mennonite Church, on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 2 p.m. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment at Hagey Cemetery.
