Mark Bowland

1972-2026

After a long but short battle with cancer, Mark Eric Bowland passed peacefully at WRHN@chicopee (Freeport Hospice) on Friday February 13, 2026. Thank you to the nursing staff on the third floor who cared for him in his last weeks. He adored every single one of them. He was surrounded by his chosen family and friends.

What can we say about Mark?

He was always the first to ask how you were and if you slept well. He was kind, caring and hard working. He loved his job at the House of Friendship. He talked of his work family all the time. He loved to travel and did his best to see parts of the world during his (not long enough) time here.  He knew how to throw a good party and welcomed all who came. The more the merrier. He loved Madonna, no one could talk him out of it. So much so that he played her songs almost all night at all of his parties. He was easy to talk to and made friends fast. He had a way of letting you know you were safe. Christmas and Halloween were his favourite times of the year. Decorating with new ornaments that seemed to sneak into the house each year. The same went for his backyard. Once Amazon became a thing we knew there was trouble! He had a love for Florida none of us could understand. Destined to be a snowbird but robbed of the chance.

He was predeceased by his mom and grandma, both of whom I am sure welcomed him home.  He is survived by his “girls” Hope and Faith who reminded him every day that he had faith and hope.  Good friend to Shannon and Cathy. He was chosen family to Jana, Jennifer and Eryn. Our brother from another mother. We were happy to share this life with him and grateful for the time we had.

Cremation has taken place. He will be placed with his mom in Memory Gardens.

Messages and condolences for the family may be left in the comments box below
