Philip Louis Fiess III
March 17, 1950 - Dec. 22, 2025
Phil was born in a midwife's home in Cando, North Dakota on St Patrick's Day. He died at the Village at University Gates, Long Term Care home, where he had lived for several years, due to his advancing Parkinson's disease. During his career as a lawyer, he practiced in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Calgary, Alberta.
He is predeceased by his parents, Rev Philip Louis Fiess II and Grace Phyllis Nicholson-Fiess. Sorely missed by his wife Kathryn Mildred Smith-Fiess, his children Philip Louis Fiess IV and Ariel Alyssa Fiess, his sister Norwynne Frape (Shaun), his brother Stephen Fiess (Neal), his niece Erin Frape (Ian), and his nephew Liam Frape.
Phil was an avid lover of fantasy and sci-fi and life-long learning. His lust for life and adventure took him boat racing in Halifax and mountain hiking in Calgary and even in LTC, he managed to go sky diving.
He loved to travel the world and engage in it with a vivacious fervour. His love for all things creative and the arts, took him to concerts, museums, galleries, musicals and plays. This was a love he shared with and instilled in his two children.
He didn't let Parkinson's change these things about him, even when he moved to long term care. To the staff at University Gates, sincerest thanks for the care and caring you provided Phil for the last 9 years.
Donations, if wished, can be made to The Village at University Gates LTC.
