Ronald Carl Edwin Dahmer
1931-2026
It is with great sadness that we announce that our Dad, Pop, Gramps and Great Gramps, Ronald Carl Edwin Dahmer has passed away at the age of 94, on March 2, 2026.
He is survived by his children, Paul (Patricia), Ross (Grace), and Anne; grandsons, Mark (Shari), Geoffrey (Chelsea) and Riley (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren, River, Naomi, Paul, Rorick, Leland and Dale; special friend, Valerie Simpson and her family, and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Carole; partner, Dorothy Harvey; brothers, Cecil, George and Jack; and parents, Nettie and Clayton.
Ron was a Chartered Accountant who began his career at Scully & Scully in Kitchener and became Comptroller at Waterloo Trust & Savings, and Mutual Life, before moving to Cambridge to become Treasurer at the Gore Mutual Insurance company.
He retired from the Gore as Senior Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer in 1996.
Ron was very active in the community, serving as chair of KW Hospital, President of Cambridge Kiwanis Club, and a member of KW Jaycees. He used his skills as a Chartered Accountant to support many non-profit organizations including Big Brothers, Maple Syrup Producers of Ontario, and the Ancient Mariners Canoe Club, among many others.
In 1988, Ron was proud to be elected to the Fellowship of Chartered Accountants in honour of his volunteer work.
He was a community leader and also a fun, kind, involved father. Ron shared his love of the outdoors, camping, canoeing, rockhounding, reading, silly songs and clever wordplay, and all things maple syrup, with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He read us bedtime stories, and made sure we all had a pocketknife, knew how to tie knots and could paddle a canoe. He warmed our pajamas by the fireplace and sometimes collected fireflies in a jar.
We will miss him very much.
Cremation has taken place. The family of Ron Dahmer invite friends and family to join us at a Celebration of Ron's life on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the hall at Wesley United Church, Cambridge, from 1-3 p.m. Remarks at 1:30.
